Music at St Mary's

St Mary’s has a strong tradition of choral and congregational singing and enjoys a wide range of church music based on hymns, songs, the mass setting and a different anthem each week. On Sunday mornings our robed choir numbers an average of 15, often up to 17 adults, singing in four-part harmony. We rehearse on Thursday evenings from 8 till around 9.30pm. We are well supported by a team of organists who take turns to play.

The adult choir is directed by Alison Fisher.

Our Youth Choir was set up in May this year and rehearses during coffee after the Sunday morning service for 15 minutes. Our members range at the moment from 6 to 11 years of age; we would also like some slightly older singers to join us. Youth Choir sings in church during the All-Age services, joining forces with the adult choir for some items, and also singing its own songs with piano. Youth Choir is directed by Alison Fisher and our administrator is Debbie Salman.

We are currently raising money for the restoration of the church organ, and look forward to welcoming you to our concerts twice a year. The next one will be in the spring of 2009. Each concert is followed by refreshments. Admission is free, with a retiring collection for the organ fund. If you would like to make a donation to the organ fund, please put your contribution in a pink envelope (found on the table by the main door in church) with your name and address on the front, and put it in the money box on the wall, also by the main door in the church. This allows us to collect the tax back from the Chancellor. Thank you!
