The first tournament was held in 2003 at Market Road, Islington with 24 teams, of which St Mary’s men’s team was one. It is a 7-a-side tournament and is hosted by Church on the Corner, an Anglican Church that worships in an old pub in Islington.
Owing to the increase in numbers, last year the tournament was held at Regents Park for the first time, this year the tournament was again in Regents Park on Bank Holiday Monday and nearly 50 teams took part with Churches of all denominations from all over London.
A women’s 5-a-side tournament was run alongside the men’s competition for the first time last year, as a result St Mary’s formed a ladies team. Last year they won the plate competition, this year they went one better coming top of their group of 6 teams and then beating Eltham Green 2-1 in the final.Goals from Rebecca Slater and Captain, Debbie Salman sealing the victory.

St Mary’s men qualified third in their group with a win, two draws and a defeat, but were beaten 2-1 in a penalty shoot-out in the first knockout stage of the competition by North London Vineyard, based in Muswell Hill.
We are always looking for new players and other teams to play against. Our squad ranges in age from 16 to ‘senior.’
